I'm a writer and a teacher from Chicago, now based in the Phoenix desert (my second home). Twenty-some years ago, I graduated with a master's degree from DePaul University. Prior to that, I completed my B.A. at University of Illinois. My background in writing, literary analysis, and experimental performance continues to unfold every day. About eleven years ago, I was introduced to a taoist mind-body discipline, here in Arizona, with subsequent opportunities to learn from teachers in both the Ukraine and Korea. As a result, I began to integrate threads of this training into my writing practices, some of which I now share with others. My intention, always, is self-government and collaboration. I love to support fellow writers and "non-writers" in establishing practices they can continue on their own, and hopefully, share with others.
Currently, I offer both individual and community-based writing facilitation. I work, one-on-one and in small groups, with people in homes, offices, studios, or places like libraries or coffee shops. And I've been fortunate to be a visiting artist in many different settings, here in the valley, including Phoenix Center for the Arts, Changing Lives Center, Alchemy Studio, CASS, Phoenix Boys and Girls Club, Recovery Innovations, Duet AZ, and SMOCA Visions. I love writing and I love people, so I feel honored, every day, to be able to do this kind of work. I want to extend a full-heart thank you to my greatest teacher, and the love of my life, Betsy Bret Harte. Betsy was also an artist and a teacher. She left this world in August of 2014, but her spirit is still very much alive. I also want to express a humble thanks to my first taoist teacher, Master Yu. And I want to offer my deep respect to every "student" I've ever encountered. You teach me how to live better.
